The high-design boutique hotel has landed in India, and what better place to start than Bangalore, the center of the subcontinent’s booming computer industry and, to be honest, a city that’s as newly flush with cash as Silicon Valley was at the end of the ‘90s.

Not for this younger set the old-world luxury of the opulent five-star colonial-style hotels. This is the perfect audience for a small and stylish hotel like the Conran & Partners-designed Park, where the marble and chandeliers of the typical luxury-hotel lobby are replaced by bold, modern elements — furnishings are sleek and minimalist, and the walls are lined with a massive pomegranate-colored silk curtain.

Upstairs the guest rooms are equally fashion-forward — in some hotels this means white and more white, but the Park’s bedrooms are colorful, calming, in violet, rust, lime and saffron. Plush modern four-poster beds dressed with goose down duvets stand on oak floors against rich paneled walls, and all rooms feature modern necessities like flat-screen televisions and high-speed internet access.

The Park features Bangalore’s only four-season heated outdoor lap pool, and beneath it, an underground spa complex offering fitness facilities, massage rooms, steam bath, sauna and body treatments. Nightlife is key to the success of a hotel like the Park; here you’ll find a suitably hip lobby lounge, as well as an Italian restaurant and Monsoon, the 24-hour Indian and Asian eatery. And outside along Mahatma Gandhi Road and the intersecting Brigade and Residency roads you’ll find no end of upscale shops, as well as restaurants and nightspots — just be sure to go out early, so as not to fall foul of Bangalore’s early closing time (11:30) and bizarre New York-style cabaret laws.
