No one could accuse The Mirror Barcelona of false advertising. With an interior aesthetic devoted to all things glass and reflective, and a radiant whiteness to the furniture and décor that borders on obsessive, this ultra-modern boutique gives off a positively Kubrickian vibe. While this brand of cutting-edge crispness often comes across as overly serious, The Mirror serves up its avant-garde leanings with a wink. Futurism dominates here, but it’s anything but grim, and leavened with a healthy dose of retro accents and mod furniture.
The advantage of decorating with mirrors is that it gives limited space an infinite feel. That’s not to say that the 63 guest rooms are small, but this is an urban boutique, so don’t expect a bedroom the size of a bowling alley. What you should expect is a private balcony to extend your living area, along with a gleaming open-plan bathroom and the requisite high-end amenities. If you do need a bit more elbow room, and don’t mind paying a bit more for a spectacular ninth-floor view, book the aptly named Privilege suites (this is a hotel that comes right out and says what it means).
The Mirror is forward-thinking behind the scenes, too, operating with an eye toward community development and sustainability. This manifests most tangibly — and deliciously — in the locally sourced ingredients that Chef Paco Perez uses to create his signature seafood dishes for the Mirror’s restaurant. Like the rest of the hotel, the dining room is equal parts unfailingly cool and effortlessly fun.
