With its very successful homegrown vernacular style — the traditional courtyard-based riad — Marrakech has, up to now, been somewhat resistant to the idea of hotels as major modern architectural statements. That’s phrased in the past tense, however, thanks to Sirayane Boutique Hotel & Spa, designed with authority by the Parisian/Marrakchi modernist architect Imaad Rahmouni. The silhouette is unmistakable, the style is distinctive, and the word they use to describe it — “purified” — doesn’t seem far off.

For more than a few design junkies, Sirayane will answer some long-held prayers. But the appeal is deeper than just the geometric forms. Rooms come with, at very least, a private terrace, and many have private gardens and plunge pools. It’s a bit like a Far East villa resort, the sort of thing that’s much more common in Thailand, say, than in Marrakech. In fact with its insular atmosphere and its immersive services — from the full-service spa to the cavernous restaurant space and the open-air lounge — it’s tempting to spend both days and nights in. The cuisine and the views of the Atlas Mountains will just about suffice as a reminder of your location — and in case that’s not enough, the free shuttle runs to the Marrakech medina regularly throughout the day.

Sirayane Boutique Hotel & Spa is approximately a 10 minute drive from Mohamed VI Avenue, the medina and the main golf courses. The hotel offers a free daily shuttle service into the medina.
