See, we’re not the only ones who thought Paris’ hotels were looking a little bit too conservative. Even from the photos, with their neon palette and dramatic contrasts, you can tell that Hotel Seven is a different sort of place. But look closer. Those fiber-optic effects are coming from underneath the bed — the bed (and the bath, for that matter) seems to levitate, cantilevered rather dramatically a foot or so above the floor.
They say it’s to get you closer to the stars. You can quibble with that proposition, but the fact remains that it is disorienting — and in a town as tradition-led as Paris, a little disorientation is just what you want out of your design.
It’s not all trickery. Okay, a lot of it is trickery — rooms feature four “olfactory channels,” which takes adjustable mood lighting one sense further. Alongside bells and whistles like these, the iPod docks and the flat-panel televisions feel positively old-fashioned.
Suites take the space-age look to another level — this is a parallel world where Barbarella takes the place of Louis XV. Add a vast wine cellar, a Taittinger champagne bar, and a stylish mirrored lounge, and you’ll get the idea — it’s not a place to spend too many nights all alone, that’s for sure.
