Posada del Faro

Calle de la Bahia Esq. Timonel

Faro José Ignacio, In and around Punta del Este , Uruguay

Style: Modern Design

Atmosphere: Quiet

13 Rooms

Come summer, South American society types and European jetsetters flock to Punta del Este, the glitzy resort and mini-city by the sea where yachts outnumber fishing boats. But if for some reason rubbing shoulders with Argentine twentysomethings in designer swimwear isn’t your thing, don’t fret: you can experience the region’s natural glory from nearby Jose Ignacio, a relaxed beach village that’s home to a handful of cool restaurants and inns. The most desirable of the selection (at least judging by its popularity — the place is always booked months ahead of time) is La Posada del Faro. The twelve-room boutique, perched on a quiet stretch of sand, radiates laid-back sophistication and beachhouse-style warmth.

Three categories of guest rooms feature hardwood floors and minimalist décor in nature-inspired hues of cream, beige, and aquamarine. Though no two rooms are alike, standard accommodations offer garden views and wireless internet, while ‘Special’ rooms come with private terraces, fireplaces, and plush armchairs ideal for a post-swim siesta. Rattan furniture and wood-beamed ceilings lend a rustic quality to the beach getaway.

The hotel’s outdoor attractions include a self-serve pool bar — there’s no time like the present to perfect the art of mixing your own martini — and access to the gorgeous Playa La Mansa beach. You’ll want to venture off the property if you’re in the mood to explore the local beaches and dining scene. Posada del Faro, after all, serves a simple function — the hotel provides fashionable accommodations just far enough away from the bustle of Punta, meaning guests can take part in the area’s famed nightlife without sacrificing a little peace on the beach the morning after.
