Med-Inn Boutique Hotel

Ataturk Mah. Siralik Cad. 446Sok. No.6

Gulluk, Bodrum Peninsula, Turkey

Style: Modern Design

Atmosphere: Quiet

26 Rooms

Just to the northeast of the Bodrum Peninsula, which juts out into the Aegean Sea, lies the sheltered Bay of Güllük. As Turkish seaside destinations go, Güllük is fairly unspoiled, with development mostly limited to the waterfront restaurants. It also happens to be home to the Med-Inn, a quirky, off-kilter boutique hotel that boasts the trappings of a small Mediterranean resort. In Bodrum proper it might be overshadowed by its flashier neighbors, but in quiet Güllük the Med-Inn is a rather pleasant surprise.

Aesthetically, it borrows from Turkey’s European side, with bright, mod-inflected furniture that wouldn’t look out of place on the set of an Italian film from the early Seventies. Taking a cue from urban boutique style, the color palette changes according to the theme of the room, from cinnamon browns and tans to the vibrant reds of the “pepper” décor. In addition to private balconies, the twenty-six suites offer the same kinds of mod cons throughout — free Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions — but differ dramatically in size, with the eight executive suites boasting nearly twice the living space of the juniors.

The tranquility at Med-Inn is all-encompassing, thanks to the proximity to the beach and the unobstructed views across the bay from almost any vantage point in the hotel. This extends to the lounge bar, which occupies a private garden convenient to the outdoor swimming pool. For more substantial cuisine, guests are thankfully not sequestered in some interior dining room — the top floor is given over to a restaurant overlooking the water, of course.
