There’s a certain logic to the fact that the first self-identified gay boutique hotel should occupy this particular stretch of Collins Avenue in South Beach (incidentally right around the block from the old Versace mansion) — it’s hard to imagine where it could possibly receive a warmer reception. Or give one, for that matter; some gay travelers are finding it’s the answer to prayers they didn’t even know they had, and straight travelers, provided they’re open-minded enough to be in South Beach in the first place, find themselves anything but unwelcome.

A glance at the color palette and it’s clear that the vibe is more about fun than the preening preciousness of the luxury boutiques. This is the more accessible end of the Miami hotel market, though one need scarcely sacrifice any comfort — Frette linens, thoughtfully stocked minibars and fully wired guest rooms ensure a first-rate experience. And the guests don’t often seem to be in a hurry to vacate their quarters; here it’s not room service, it’s Stay Naked Dining. Bathrobes, incidentally, are provided.

The place is packed with social spaces, including a poolside lounge that’s among the most inviting in town. Not for Lords the velvet-rope nightmare of some of Miami’s more aggressively exclusive properties; a hotel like this, it need scarcely be said, is all about inclusion.
