Crystal Hotel
Boulevard Mohamed VI - Zone Hôtelière de l'Aguedal
Marrakech, Morocco
Neighborhood: New City
Style: Modern Design
Atmosphere: Happening
11 Rooms
Please note: There is a 2-night minimum stay requirement for all Thursday and Friday night arrivals.
With a location a mile and a half outside the medina, the Crystal Hotel is clearly aimed at someone other than the typical Marrakech riad aficionado. A quick look around will tell you exactly who — it’s a part of the Pacha complex, which also houses the Crystal restaurant and Pacha, which is arguably the capital of North African nightlife.
This goes a long way towards explaining the Crystal Hotel’s aesthetic. It’s got very little time for rugs and moucharabieh and assorted other Africana; the Crystal’s audience are cosmopolitan, sophisticated, and most of them don’t need a hotel room to remind them what the inside of a traditional Marrakchi mansion looks like.
All eleven of the accommodations are suites, and are very long on contemporary style, and fairly luxurious as well. If there’s less local color in the rooms than you might expect from Marrakech, that’s part of the point — though you might not get the idea from the travel press, this town is more than just a playground for the well-heeled French and English.
They’re more than comfortable enough, though you probably won’t be tempted to shut yourself in, given the options — the nightlife here is at least half the appeal, and the other offerings include a second, more casual restaurant, as well as another cocktail bar, one a bit mellower than the thumping Pacha.
